17 May Attracting Buyers with Curb Appeal
The importance of curb appeal can not be overstated when preparing your home for sale. An attractive frontage can entice potential buyers, including those only considering a move. Curb appeal is so beneficial it’s wise to invest both time and money in its beautification. Home improvement guru, Bob Villa, says “If you are considering selling, good landscape design can add up to 20% value to your home.”
Powerwash + Clean
To begin your curb appeal makeover, remove all ornamentation, furniture and planters, as well as any yard litter. Then power wash the home’s exterior, the walkway, the driveway and the public sidewalk. Giving windows and doors a good cleaning will not only help to make house look well maintained, but will actually add more light to interior as well! First impressions of the condition of your home, begins from the outside.
Trim + Doors
A fresh coat of paint is well worth the effort. Traditionally door and window frames will match. But, secondary trim and the front door can be done in a bright and welcoming colour. This will help the property draw the eye of passersby, and to add uniqueness to the home.
Hardware + Lights
Now, if needed, add new hardware to the door, paint or replace mailbox, and house numbers. Be sure your exterior lighting will effectively illuminate the home to accommodate evening drivebys. This can be achieved, as simply as cleaning glass of fixtures and changing out light bulbs, if necessary.
With the exterior of the house complete, focus now on the entrance way. Decorative planters boasting lovely floral arrangements and greenery, along with a new door matt, will all but beckon the possible buyers forward.
Grass + Garden
The lawn should be healthy and trimmed. If your grass isn’t as full as you imagine it could be, keep in mind, most grass seeds, in moderate temperatures, take about two weeks to grow. Don’t forget to fertilize and maintain a schedule of watering your lawn.
Border hedges and fences should, typically, not obstruct the curb-side viewing of the property. Hedges should be manicured, and fences should be painted (stained) and well maintained. Lastly, ensure flower beds are weeded and mulched.
